FAQ

What Do We Do?  Well, Thanks for Asking...

Diesel Imports

As described on our "About" page, our specialty is vintage, diesel, four-wheel-drive imports.  We mainly focus on the Toyota brand and, more specifically, the Land Cruiser models.  Now, there's a huge variety to what the Land Cruiser model can be broken down into, which includes two-door wagons. four-door wagons, two-door pickups, convertible tops and all available in multiple wheel-bases - short, medium and long.  Here are a few questions we get regarding our imports:

  • Are the diesel versions of the Land Cruiser really more reliable and fuel efficient than their gasoline counterparts?
    •  In general, the stock and unmodified diesels are more fuel efficient than the gasoline versions.  In fact, on average, the diesel power-plant is nearly twice as efficient in terms of fuel consumption.  Comparing the reliability of  a diesel engine (compression system) versus a gasoline engine (combustion system), it is arguable that diesel will outlast gas if properly maintained.  However, Toyota's gasoline engines are nothing less than remarkable with some claims of the 4.7L 2UZ-FE engine reaching over 1-million miles!  So, I'm not going to say, "buy a Toyota diesel because it's better than gas."  I will say that the Toyota diesel engines are incredibly robust and built to work in some of the most harsh environments on the planet.
  • Are parts hard to find and/or expensive?
    • Parts are actually easier to source than you'd think.  There are a ton of vendors in the U.S. who help diesel Land Cruiser owners maintain and upgrade their vehicles.  Our commitment to past and present clients is to keep their investments running.  We feel it is our job to help source parts whether after-market or OEM, for all diesels purchased from us.  Even if you purchased your vehicle from another vendor/importer, we'd still love to give you some assistance if at all possible.  Prices vary, as you would expect, but we have been doing this long enough, so we know where to find the most reasonably priced parts.
  • Can I request a vehicle that is not in stock?
    • Yes!  We love sourcing these Land Cruisers.  If you don't see a model that you'd like within our inventory, or you like something we've already sold, please let us know and we'll get another one.  We do require a deposit for "ordered" vehicles and that cost is based on the year/model requested.  We also offer a more interactive way to "shop" for your diesel.  We call it, the Diesel Quest: come travel with us and pick out your own vehicle.  For more information, please contact us using our contact form or click here.
  • What do you mean, "left-hand-drive?"
    • This is a very important element.  All our imports are left-hand-drive, which is the same as all vehicles sold in North America.  You'll notice the majority of diesel Land Cruiser imports currently in the U.S. are right-hand-drive.  There's nothing wrong with that and they are just as safe to drive, but from our research, there were still many Land Cruiser enthusiast who preferred left-hand-drive.  There were very few available in the U.S. market so, we decided to help fill that void.
  • I have a ton more questions, what's the best way to connect with NicaNorth?
    • Please, use our contact form located on our website.  This is, by far, the quickest way to connect with us.  We respond in two-hours or less.  Give it a shot.

U.S. Spec 4WD/AWD

We tend to go a little overboard with research, but definitely find it necessary with the massive selection of later-model vehicles available today.  As you may know, every new generation of every make and model isn't always perfect.  Hell, there isn't a single vehicle on the planet worthy of being defined as perfect.  Anyway, what we strive to provide are the best model years for each generation of each make we offer.  We utilize various reports from the NHTSA and Consumer Reports to help sift away some of those bad apples while also scouring forums for the issues that may have never surfaced officially.

  • What do you mean by US Spec?
    • This is just the way we separate our imports from the vehicles sold from day-one in the U.S.  Some of the models in which we import also have US counterparts that were sold here, in the U.S. from new.
  • Your pricing seems rather low compared to other dealers.  Why is this?
    • The main reason our prices are substantially lower than retail is because we don't charge our clients doc fees, advertising fees, delivery fees or any other, weird, hidden fee.  We charge the value of the vehicle, taxes and title.  Our asking price is the final price.  When we say $7000.00, that's what we mean.  We're just trying to keep it simple for everyone involved.
  • Can I request a vehicle that is not in stock?
    • Yes!  We can source vehicles of any make and model.  More importantly, if you'd like us to find you a car, we tend to look in the South/Southwest to assure you don't get a pile of rust!  We have great relationships with individuals from Texas, Florida and Arizona.
  • Do you also service your inventory?
    • Yes, we can offer service to your vehicle if needed.  We work closely with incredibly talented mechanics and fabricators.
  • Do you finance?
    • No, we do not, but we can connect you with someone who can get you the best rates possible.

Classics

Before we began importing and dealing with the more modern vehicles we offer, we collected and wrenched on, what we define today as, classics.  From pure gas and oil induced muscle cars to the more refined, big-body cruisers, we know and love these things.  We're always on the look-out for new classics and also have quite a few to shed away to make room for more.

  • Where do you find your classic inventory?
    • Many of our vehicles come from personal collections and estate sales.  We also have found quite a few classics by simply searching auction sites as well as local classifieds in other states.
